Some nice shots from an afternoon in the lovely botanical garden 2 minutes from our house.

Rosemary has been really happy lately -- the other day when I dropped her off at school she declared, "I like myself!" Her teacher at parent-teacher conference said she is doing great and is the teacher's "assistant". Apparently she does have to be redirected from time to time because she really doesn't like it when the kids don't line up when asked, and occasionally tries to physically force them to do so.
We had a wonderful long Halloween weekend with the Spindlers. We crammed a lot in four days! We went on the bat boat, to Rosemary's school for Halloween special snack and her first dance recital, to Zilker Park, James took Dan to a UT game, we went to St. Marks' Halloween Part, and to Wurst Fest! It was really fun to show them our new house and Rosemary and Louis loved having their grandparents visit.

The Spindlers under the German flag at Wurst Fest. I told Dan that if they knew his last name, they would have (or should have) let him in free, but he didn't try it. The Wurst Fest did get high marks though, and was compared to the Sheboygan County Fair. (Seconds after this picture James and Dan disappeared for sausage and beer).
After tenure, James has become this laid back, "fun dad"
Rosemary and her grandma (she is entranced by the German brass band -- you can see in the video below that she doesn't take her eyes off it for a second). The kids LOVED the music -- and the musicians were really from Germany!
Louis was tentative about his first carousel ride but way, way braver than Rosemary was on her first (and second, third, ... tenth). But Rosemary is making up for being such a wimp earlier -- she held my hand and "kept me safe" when we rode the Ferris wheel (a very small, rickety Ferris wheel). I think she thought it was a little scarier than she let on, though, because after the ride she told me, "you can let daddy keep you safe next time."

Doesn't Louis looks like a German soccer hooligan here? I am afraid he's going to break a bottle over someone's head!
OK, these are from Rosemary's first dance recital. They speak for themselves. The cutest thing is how incredibly proud of themselves all the girls were -- they were all so self-confident and it was so clear that this was a really big deal for them.
