Driving Down Route One

After everyone left, the excitement didn't stop ... we had a wedding near Santa Cruz and a scenic drive down Route One (we had never done the northern part). She enjoyed the wedding. It was on a gorgeous farm... when we arrived, Rosemary instantly demanded that we show her the "woofs," "hops," and "baas," (dogs, bunnies, and sheep). We don't know where she got that idea, but I guess she figured that there should be dogs, bunnies, and sheep on any respectable farm. There weren't any, but there was a train and a swing and fish. And dancing! Not bad. During the wedding, she said her first phrase, "MY book," about the wedding program. Rosemary has started to become obsessed with her "hops" (bunnies) that Uncle Moof (James's brother) had brought back from Japan --above you can see said "hops" in San Luis Obispo. She is also into wearing her "hat." On the way down, we got to see elephant seals, which she LOVED.

Visiting Cousin Ashley and her parents, Nana and Nani, and more Beatrice

So much has happened in the last three weeks that its hard to know where to start. First off, we had a really great visit with Ashley and her parents, Sandy and Tyler. Rosemary's mom hadn't seen Ashley since about a year ago(see this blog, May 2008 for a comparison of the two girls together a year ago) , and it was so nice to see her (and her mom and dad, of course) again, particularly since Rosemary and Ashley were old enough to really interact. They had a great time together and Rosemary really missed her when she had to leave. Ashley DID teach Rosemary how to say "MINE" though... guess it was bound to happen :-)

Rosemary's "Nana" and "Nani" were visiting at the same time, and Beatrice was born (and unfortunately was in the hospital -- she is completely fine and thriving now, but we were nervous for a few days), so a lot was happening all at once. She quickly learned how to call for Nana and Nani, and learned their number... when she woke up from a nap and saw my dad, she ordered "book!" See pictures of her below, marching him across the bridge at the Japanese garden. She also forced each grandparent to her hands, simultaneously, as they sat next to her in the back seat.

She is learning words quickly now... each day, we're finding out new words that she knows that we didn't realize... like "fun," (her Nani actually made up a sign for this, but now she just says the word) "water," "mouse," and "apple." Also some new words, like "mimi" (pacifier -- I kind of hate this one as she's become pretty demanding for it and I'm not sure what to do about that), and "nanoo" (mango or tomato). She ... VERY occasionally gives you extremely passionate kisses which involve grabbing each cheek and planting one right on the mouth, but her more common response to pretty much anything is "No"

Visiting Henry

We're just catching up on a month of activity, but at the end of May Rosemary had a really great visit with Henry while her dad did a talk at Stanford. Henry even managed to steal a kiss!

Beatrice is Born and Swing Addiction

Today we got to welcome Rosemary's first cousin, Beatrice Kumar, into the world. She is an adorable little girl, and Summer bravely went through lightning-speed labor (without an epidural, and almost without a doctor!) Rosemary's reaction was certainly interested -- she kept calling "baby," "baby," and crying. Not sure what was upsetting her exactly, but it seemed that she wanted to interact with the baby. We told her that, in a few weeks, she could sit with the baby on her lap.

On more mundane news, she seems to be addicted to her new swing, which she calls "wee." Sometimes she wakes up in the morning, gazing into the distance, and sadly calling, "wee," "wee," "wee"
