Back to school... and solo adventures abroad!

I've had these pictures uploaded for a few months now, but haven't had a chance to organize or narrate them. TOO BAD! The time is now -- too many other new things to post like Christmas cross-country skiing, Louis's first unassisted bike ride, Rosemary's first game basket and choir solo!

We got back to Austin really just before school started, which I kind of like -- not much time to overthink it! An end-of-summer Dutch baby:

September brought some good and some bad. Good was back-to-school, with Louis in the wonderful Ms. Kiki's class. He right now is feeling more insecure for whatever reason and reluctant to go to school, and generally giving us a very hard time; but in the fall he was feeling his oats a little bit as the big man on campus and often you could catch him talking about how great he was at this or that. Rosemary has a meh teacher this year but overall you can tell she feels great about herself and is thriving.

On the bad side, both James and I got pneumonia which took weeks to recover from. On the GREAT side James and I  got to go to my old stomping grounds in Aix-en-Provence together for a whole week without kids! I was a bit nervous going so far away without them but I will say it was a really good thing for us to do and I enjoyed as always using my French and being in France and eating French food! It was also neat to be in Aix with James after spending a fairly lonely summer there in college not doing much.
Letting the rose breathe...
Incredibly delicious food.
Foundation Vasarely -- turned otu to be a real gem!
The outside of the Fondation Saint John Perse where I worked for a summer in college.
Arles was an amazing place -- we rented a car for the weekend and had an fantastic day trip to see the Roman ruins and markets.
And the next day, Cassis!

Louis's obsession with Robin Hood and archery continues...
Karaoke night for Aaron Barker's 35th birthday
Cute Rosemary on the first day of school looking very nervous. She ran to school all the way with Esme, looking delighted, but just before we walked into the school building she turned grey and looked about to throw up. She survived, though!

End of the last day-of-school snow cones with William and Bennett:
Louis looking dapper on his first day:
Riding to school with James on the first day!
First fall happy hikers:
A really wonderful Labor Day visit with Katie where we spend the night in San Antonio and I crashed one of her long-lost childhood friends' wedding (gah!):
Archery and more and more archery:
General fun with kids, on the Zilker Rock:
Louis's brief flirtation with being a cop (but back to Robin Hood soon thereafter):
Fishing and eating our catch!
Home spun Robin Hood with whisky container quivery and dead chicken feather in cap:
And soccer! Rosemary didn't have much luck with her team this year -- great coach but the boys on her team were really too advanced for her and she didn't get much play. But Louis did great! He probably improved the most of anyone on the team and even got a header goal! (He cried at first as it hurt but was pretty happy when he realized it went in!)
We briefly took Kiera for Maureen and Paul until we realized the two dogs couldn't get along:
And...gah! ... handsomer than ever!
